About Us:

Grapevine is the only platform dedicated to Giving Circles - where people come together, pool their donations and amplify their impact. Since our launch in 2020, we have moved over $20M in donations from 40,000 Giving Circle members to more than 2,000 small, local nonprofits across the country. We’re the Giving Circle platform partner of Charity Navigator, Giving Compass, Philanthropy Together, the global giving circle initiative backed by the Gates Foundation, and more. If you’ve never heard of a Giving Circle before, check them out in the NYT, Fast Company, and Refinery29. We have top tier funders supporting our mission, including Notation Capital, PJC, UluVentures, Alex Chung (founder of Giphy), and David Heath (founder of Bombas).

Who we are looking for:

We’re looking for a full stack engineer with strong technical chops to lead and help grow our three person engineering team. On the average day you might work on a new feature to let members message people through the site, optimize SQL queries to improve API performance, or update the engineering style guide for coding best practices.

We’re a team of good people doing great things. Our team culture is built on openness, intentionality, collaboration, and spirit. We love our work and are a high performance team that is passionate about making a difference everyday. We are seeking an innovative and energetic person to join our founding team of experienced, socially-minded builders.

Role:

This is an opportunity for an excellent engineer who wants to serve in a leadership role on the team, setting the standard for code quality and helping make sure team members are productive and not blocked. Our team works in weekly sprints, with a high level of autonomy for each member of the team for which tasks to work on and how to implement them. Our team is remote, with the CTO in Santa Barbara and the engineers all currently in Argentina, and all team members have 10+ years of professional experience. Our stack is Postgres / Python / Django / Angular, all continuously deployed on Heroku.

You’ll work closely with our founding team to define technical strategy and help set the standard and pace for the engineering team. We are very collaborative, with daily coworking sessions via Slack Huddles in addition to our weekly planning sessions and standups, and we frequently screen share work in progress and discuss design decisions as a team.

This is an opportunity to join a growing start-up with a positive mission at its early stages and help lay the groundwork for the future of our growing community and its impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the technology platform
  • Help define the technical strategy for the company
  • Provide mentorship to engineers, with a genuine interest in helping them reach their goals
  • Work with CTO to make projections and guide product roadmap based on engineering capacity
  • Ensure high level of code quality and a good code review culture within the team
  • Help balance moving quickly with delivering quality
  • Monitor and improve app performance over time
  • Write code every day

Qualities of a successful candidate:

  • 5+ years of work experience, with 1+ years as a lead or manager
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Focus on the details and enjoy getting the little things right
  • Strong understanding of software development best practices
  • Passion for using technology to create positive change in the world
  • Willingness to work hard, take ownership and responsibility for scope of work
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience as a team leader, both directing engineers and setting quality standards, but also executing and getting deep into the work

Extra Credit:

  • Experience working on or leading a virtual team
  • Experience in philanthropy (as a nonprofit professional, at a foundation, or at a company serving nonprofits or donors)
  • Experience in fintech or consumer tech

What’s in it for you?

  • In addition to a terrific team of people, a supportive structure, and interesting technical problems, we offer exciting growth opportunities and the ability to make a positive difference in the world.

What you’re looking for:

  • A place to grow and learn
  • The opportunity to do a great job at a wide variety of tasks
  • A place to set the standard for a high quality engineering team
  • A group of good people doing great things
